A good alternative to the Bonneville is a Regal. Same basic platform as the GP, but many many more option.*

I would love to own a fully loaded GP or Regal. I must say I like the 97 - 03 model but I think it is beginning to look dated. I feel that the 04-08 model looks better especially when options packages are involved. I would like to have an 05 GTP Comp G sitting in my driveway with paddle shifters and 260 hp under the hood =]

I've been in a few GPs and a few Bonnevilles. Ride comfort, the Bonnie is the way to go. The GP is a tighter car, working on the engine will be harder as there'* less room, the back seat is fine for kids, not so good for adults. Performance, the GP is a better choice, even with less under hood space. More options for the body. Bonnvilles are all custom. If your going to track race, the GP is several hundred pounds lighter so will be faster at the track. So the question is, what do YOU want from the car? A fast track car? The GP, a quick track car with more comfort, the bonnie.

I second the notion of a Regal. When I was searching cars, I test drove a few. If you can get one with the Gran Touring suspension option, its a good compromise. The GT suspension handles very well, takes turns, but doesn't give you a harsh ride. The GP on the other hand is pretty stiff and unforgiving. My sister had a GP, and it rode very tough. On the flip side of that, my other sister just bought a 01 Regal LSE. Basically, its an LS (NA3800) plus the GT suspension and a ton of options. Its loaded, and she loves it. I've driven that, and another LSE, and I like them both as opposed to the GP. All the aftermarket engine/suspension bits work, there are even some choices as far as appearance mods, since SLP made a GSX appearance package for them.
Test drive a few and see what suits you better. Think thats the only way you're gonna know for sure what you like and don't, regardless of everyone elses opinions here.

cant go wrong with a gp. their cheap, look fantastic, and fast bone stock. im a big guy and its so roomy in my 2dr. the only issue i have with the gp is that the belt tensioners suck. this december will be 9yrs ive had my car and ive had to replace it 3 times already. i mean it didnt go out on me, the mechanic caught the warning signs ahead of time. other than that, extremely reliable, fast, cheap, and attractive, cant go wrong.
