You know... the moment right before something bad is almost certain to happen, and you have that realization in your head that things are gonna go bad real quick? That split second you figured out you cross-threaded something, lost an important part, broke something expensive, or narrowly missed a red light runner....

Well, mine was Monday. Weather called for mid 40s, chance of rain. When I left work, the parking lot was a skating rink, which was fun doing e brake donuts (mmm donuts) in our employee lot in my huge tank. Then I tried to drive home...

My drive between here and work is up and down huge hills with 8% grades or worse. Twisty backroads with 15mph corners. I've only been there since May, so this was the first bad weather experience on these roads. Fun when weather is good.. not so much when you have 2" of slush on the ground and the freezing rain is coming down so fast the rear defrost can barely keep up.

I was on one of those twisty backroad sections, and had a school bus coming downhill around a tight left hand (from my POV) corner and start to slide over the center (what you could make out of any sort of center line at that point..) and I was already trying to take the corner and failing. The LeSabre just kept going toward the hill and trees to my right no matter what I did. In that split second, I decided in my head I was gonna crash, there was nothing I could do to save it at that point, and I was just going into the trees no matter what I did.
Somehow, the LeSabre dug into something solid with the left front, swung the whole back end sideways just along the edge of the road, and just as the bus and cars behind it passed, I found myself going up the slight hill and drifting the corner. I barely realized I hadn't plowed into the trees, and had to remember to keep my speed up to climb what was left of the hill or risk getting stuck.

Cars were off the road everywhere in the area, accidents all over.. fatal head on collision not that far from where I was. What normally takes 40 minutes to drive took about 70 minutes total.
Yeah, I'm getting snow tires. ASAP!

Snow tires are a MUST in your conditions. I'm glad nothing happened to you. You must have had an angel following you because you could have been wrapped around a tree right now.

I would recommend the Firestone Blizzaks. Excellent value and they're rated for snow and ice. The Winterforce tires are more of a deep snow tire. I'm going to be getting some for my car very soon.

my latest oh crap moment hmmmmm.......id have to say mine was when i was driving up hill 40 mph(in the city i hate the city)And a guy pulls off a side road stops to look and blocks the enttire right lane therby causing me to have to swreve behind him jump a curb a 40 mph my truck thgen got sideways sild down a samll hill into a marathon gas station and my rear bumper came about 5-8 inches from a gas pump....after i got settled the guy was nowhere to be seen....So therby pissing me off more and on the way back to my dads resturant a guy in a thunderbird almost side swiped me...Once again i hate the city and everything to do with it people are idiots and dont know how to drive......End of rant

Well, it depends on the winter. Normally, we don't get anything like this for another month or so. No one was prepared for it.
I've had Blizzaks for snow tires on all my cars except this one. I really didn't need them last winter. The Cruiser has 4 Blizzaks, but I can't drive it legally, since it has some emissions related problems that won't let it pass inspection, and now the registration is past due.
Believe me, I'm not new to the whole snow thing. Used to have an AWD Astro, with just Michelin LTX tires would go anywhere. Even had Blizzaks on my 87 Regal when I was driving it as a daily back in the mid 90s.
I had planned on getting snows anyway, just wasn't prepared for it this early in the season. Parts of NY saw 8" of snow on Monday! Its insane to get that kinda weather here before Thanksgiving. Road crews weren't even out until the first accidents were reported.
Ive actually been looking into either Blizzaks WS70, or the new Continental ExtremeWinter Contact. Both are about the same price at tire rack, though the Conti'* did better in their test results.

Today at work when i went to lift a pallet of cases off another pallet of cases that i had JUST sorted and stacked on pallets and accidently knocked em all over. about 400 boxes. and the product got mixed so i had to resort and stack.

and then on the way home when a cyclist was blocking the lane so we went to go around him and he swerved right in front of us while we were going about 45 mph.

Hmmmff, i cant drive

last week, i was riding my bike doing some tricks and such. I saw this mitsubishi and i decided to go infront of it. the lady stoped. some 24-25 year old blonde. I told her how crappy her car was. She was in a hurry and such so she sped off. Today i saw her again driving a NEW chevy cruze. Thats more of a holy crap moment but i guess my oh crap was when i went in front of her.

The other day on my way to Toronto pulling 12,000 lbs Going down hill, Now Rule is stay off the brakes and let the motor slow you down is: Coast !!! Well some moron in a Civic (Whats a Civic weigh?)

He cut me off slammed on the brakes well, remember im pulling 12000, but total weight is somewhere in the 27000 to 29000 Range Truck Load and Trailer !

I messed up by not setting my trailer brakes properly by the time I realized the trailer wasn't stopping me I had reached down to MAX out the trailer brakes..

Brakes on 2 axles cost me 4 new tires... No where to go and I didn't feeling like killing his kids cause he was an idiot.
