The basement bedroom with an adjacent bathroom used to be an office for Kristina'* dad. Long story short, he'* undergoing lung cancer treatment so they've asked us to stay for a bit longer while he recovers in order to help him with his IT business, so they've given us the room so we would have more space and privacy.

Needless to say, that bathroom hasn't been updated since 1979. Disgusting. The entire bathroom was covered with plastic sheeting, basically very thin, dense fiberboard glued to a plastic sheet. This was then glued to the drywall behind it. I had the joy of taking it all down.

The only source of light was a flourescent bar which took 30 seconds to turn on after flickering endlessly, bolted to a sheet metal medicine cabinet from the 70'* with two sliding mirrors. The only power outlet in the bathroom was part of the light bar. You'll notice as you go through the pictures that I ran a conduit for a power outlet.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of what it looked like before i took the sheeting down, but the same sheeting is on the inside of the shower. I'd redo the shower with tile as well but that'* beyond my budget and its not our house anyway.

I still need to replace the flushing mechanism on the toilet and put the tank back on, caulk around the toilet base, replace the shower curtains, clean the toilet, sink, and shower, paint the door frame, and perhaps build some kind of cabinet under the sink to provide some storage and hide the plumbing.

We're almost done refinishing the bedroom. Pics of that to come.

I was thinking of that too, but then you still don't have any place to put random toiletries aside from the very limited space around the faucet and on top of the toilet tank lid.

you could buy those small little plastic cabinets to go under there... they are cheap

Looks good. A small cabinet under the sink would put the finish touch on the whole thing.

I wish I had houseguests who remodeled. Mine just eat my food and ask for more.
