I too am a professional. I also have a family to support but I started out once just like you. I remember working cutting grass and digging ditches as a maintenance grounds keeper making $2./hr to put myself through school many years ago.
Hey I just got my COLA raise too. 2.5%.
I get paid a salary by the month and I work 60 hrs a week, so it works out to $36./hr now. That'* about $27/hr US though. Our government takes half of it so don't get too jealous.

i'm on my way through college right now to become an engineer
That'* what I am.
Professional Mechanical Engineer. BASc P.Eng.
A word to the wise. If you really want to make $$, start your own business. You will never be rich working for someone else.......like me.
If you have the smarts and can save the cash, continue on and get your Masters in Business Administration after a couple years of practical experience.

Yeah, if I was edumacated, I could be making a lot more. The onlky professional training I have is some Law Enforcement (no thank you) and computer repair. Nobody hires straight repairman around here, tho. You gotta be a network engineer at least.
But, at one time, running my own business, I had six digits in the bank. All I did was drink it. I still wonder how I didn't end up dead or in prison. So I'm pretty happy where I'm at. And that'* what matters, right?
