Haha, I was driving a 17 foot U-HAUL truck today. I was merging, and it wouldn't make the 1-2 shift. So I was like WTF....I tried again and BOOM. Scared the crap outta me. It started making a really loud knocking consistent with engine RPM'*. So I kept driving to find a place to park, then the SES light came on and smoke was coming from the bottom of the engine. Called U-HAUL and they towed it away.

Sweet part is I didn't have to refuel the bugger or clean it out. I'm actually so happy the motor blew...I was done everything, all I needed to do and was just take it to get fuel and clean in up.

But yeah...I'm actually not sure what blew. After the BOOM it sounded like it was running without any exhaust, it was really loud. Then the SES light came on and it started smoking. I initially though the exhaust pipe had just broke, but I guess not. I looked underneath and the exhaust was intact. Anyone have any guesses what happened to it?

heh, prolly the 1998ish model. did it have the triton v10 badge?

the first set of letters is the size class, the numbers is the serial number, and the letter is the year model. the 2005'* are EL K'*.

Close! I think it was a '97, there was a sticker in the cab with some diagrams that had the year. No V10 badge though. I wish they called back and told me what happened to it.

edit: Do you work for UHAUL or something like that?

No doubt it was a 5.4L SOHC. Maybe you popped a plug. The 5.4L mod motors are good at that.

Wow POS eh? Glad you didnt have to remove your belongings and repack another truck!!

You know it used to be that Uhaul never used to provide you with "the number just in case you break down" bit.

I rented one that had over 300K on it and it was what seemed like a mid to late 80'*. I was scared the whole trip!! LOL
