For the Enterprise.

My car is sitting in a transmission shop actutally its on a lift trans a workbench getting a rebuild ( There wasn't time for me to get a shift kit Etc so don't ask) just a basic rebuild with clutches and a new torque converter.

Rant

This all started out with a simple solenoid change. My father has a trans guy he'* known for years. So we take the car to him to have a TCC issue resolved. ( http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=61026 ). He says its a bad solenoid and he will fix it for $300. Ok I mention that the for the riviera you most drop the whole subframe to get to get the tranny out so he can work on it . He says he doesn't have to he will just lower the subframe a little and change the solenoids through the fenderwell. Ok I am not a trans rebuilder so maybe he can. Well One week goes by and I call him to ask if the cars ready. He wants to talk to my dad ( who is standing right next to me ) so I pass it to him. After they speak it seems I need a NEW Torque converter price is now $500 and the car will be ready saturday (it is thursday in the story) . So saturday rolls in I head to the Transmission shop to pick up my car and get the final price. Well guess whats the first thing the tranny guys says to me (translated from spanish )" This is a pain in the ***, I had to drop the whole subframe and remove the transmisson just to look at it. Is it done I ask. (tranny guy) Haven't touched the trans yet. . WHY YOU.......... My father steps in and tells him to take his time. After giving my father the look of death. I took a deep breathe told him to just do the whole thing and left.

Cliff Notes

trans bad
trans needs new torque converter
car is still down.
******* Transmission guy that doesn't give a ****.

OK, don't take this the wrong way, but your first mistake is taking it to a "transmission shop". Never deal with one of these places, they're usually THIEVES. Find a dealer that has a factory-certified transmission tech. It'll cost you more for the job, but you don't have to worry about being ripped off, as this guy likely is doing. And it will also likely save you money in the long run, because you won't be coming back in six months with another busted tranny because they used cheap parts.
Also, a dealer will generally have your trans done in three to four days.

EDIT: You should wonder why your Dad knows this trans guy so well. How often does he see the guy?

In New York, Dealer transmisson techs are non-existent. They send the transmissons out to the very trans shops that just screwed me in the ***. As for my father I don't know but they seem to be friends. My father is a mechanic of 22 years so I trust his judgement some what. :?

Check out Long Island and Jersey dealers. You should be able to find one somewhere that has an in-house tech. Like I said, specialized shops are generally a bad risk.
I respect your Dad'* experience, but from the guys attitude towards you, I say yank your business.
I've had to take my car back from non-dealer shops twice. Once when I had the Probe, and they took a week and still didn't have the alternator replaced, and another time with the Taurus, when it screwed it'* second trans into the ground. I had it towed from one AAMCO, across town to another, because they were refusing to honor their lifetime guarantee. Tried to tell me I had abused it. The car had 120hp, how the hell can you abuse the trans with that?

Unfortunetly the trans is already disassembled so I can't take it anywhere else. I did laugh when you mentioned the tarus story. Thanks for cheering me up
