Default I seized a pulley!

You read it right. A pulley'* bearings wore out and it seized up. Like many here the belt started to drag on it and the belt started smoking at the crank pulley because of it.

I wore a nice groove in the pulley by pushing it further to make it back.

The dumb part is I heard it making noise and meant to look into it, forgot and the next week....Blammooooo seized up and rendered my mower useless w/o new parts. (You wondered why this was lounge didn't you? )

Took it apart on Sunday with Chris aka Lime'* help and discovered the bad pulley and semi cooked belt. Baby is a White (aka MTD) LT165 Lawn Tractor, has a 46" cut.

While I had the deck out and the mower apart I decided to swap all 3 belts, the pulley and a fan on the hydrostatic that got beat up by the belt.

Sunday evening stopped over my parents place and asked Dad to hit the mower shop on Monday (it'* great having a retired parent to run errands).

$145 later I had 1 pulley, 1 fan and 3 belts. Considering the mower has needed next to nothing in 10 years of running and cutting .....it'* been great.

Heck..I even changed the oil!

2 hours after getting the parts..I was out mowing again. It was a great feeling hopping in and fixing it up, although I was a little worried I might run into something I couldn't understand or do without the manual.

Anyone know where I can get a manual for a 1996/97 White LT165 Lawn tractor?

Glad you got 'er all fixed up. I've cooked a mandrel on a White tractor before, too! LOL

My father is a HUGE White tractor enthusiast. He'* into the GT models, though. Not the LTs.

For your manual, get over to ebay. There'* tons and tons of them out there. I've bought lots of White parts and entire tractors on ebay.

I searched the other day and couldn't find them... I looked for White Manuals, found GT stuff. looked for Lt165...nothing..

Any help on the search topic would be great.

BTW..inherited the mower when it was 1 year old. I'd probably have gotten an GT myself but..free is free.

(GT = Garden Tractor and usually a little more rugged than LT or Lawn Tractor)

Do a search just for White tractor on ebay. That'* how we find our stuff.

Ya, the GT is more rugged than the LT. I'd post a pic, but I don't have any digitals. My father-in-law has 9 GTs. 5 are 1855 and the other 4 are 1655s. They all have the hydrolic three point hitch, much bigger rear wheels, and bigger engines. At minimum, they got a 16 HP, but most got the 18. And the decks are bigger.

My GT 1855 has a 60" deck and 18 HP motor! We've pulled a tiller and york rake behind it with the three point hitch. Powerful stuff for the size of them!

If you know anyone that has a plow for a GT, let me know. We have a blower, but want a snow plow!
