i am really wondering why my gen seems to get a rust hole in the same place on the rocker...

i was looking at a few on auto trader and on cars.com and alot of them seem to have that hole like mine, what exactly causes this?

Probably a common place for salt / road debris buildup

Check under your trunklid edge too. Found rust there the other day on MrsCrzy'* Kinda upsetting too cause it WAS a totally rustfree LE but things seem to be deteriorating at an expontial rate on that one. It does not look ANYWHERE like the pics anymore and those were taken just shy of 2 years ago.

I do not have rust in that area yet, but some minor surface rust starting to show up along the outer rockers, way down low and the rust through along the bottom edge of the trunklid

Edited to add, for an LE, yours is very well optioned! Hers has everything but the floor shift and steering wheel controls, mine has ZIP, NADA, right down to the crank windows.

Neither of ours has rust there, mine has none, hers has what I mentioed above.

Gotta be a low spot or collection point for something. I have heard that rust can sometimes start underneath, like if its getting splashed up from the tire and gets caught in a pocket. Now I gotta get a flashlight and go check mine LOL

Edit, yes there is a pocket where road grime can accumulate, right there at the bend. Only place on the car with shiny paint left

yeah, but what is so weird about the whole thing, is that the OTHER side has absolutely NO indication of that starting whatsoever!

You open the driver'* door A LOT more then the passenger door. More opportunuties for chit to get inside.

It'* like a camera body, everytime you swap lenses you're creating a way for dust to get in, more swaps = more dust.

The '91 had some rust down in those areas, but not nearly as bad. And on a different part of the top of the rocker panel.

The edge of my trunklid was finished too, it was ghetto-patched with a patch panel literally riveted in and shot with black undercoating. Not for appearance, that'* for sure. But it wasn't a visible thing from the outside, so I didn't mind.

Right now the trunklid edge is just pinhole and LOTS of paint flaking off, If I was aggresive now, I could probably save the panel. If we decide to keep the car for much longer than about another year, I would probably find a better trunklid. But the rest of the car (cosmetically) is falling to pieces anyways, seats door panels and there just isnt much paint left on any top surface anymore.

Mine was a pinhole more or less too. Right underneath the instructions sticker for the manual fuel-door release. (not sure if that'* the original spot for it).

And then I poked it. Wow, soft and flexy. Poked it some more. WHAT THE **** it all fell apart.
