city of Charleston, West Virginia is hosting the 30th Annual POCI Convention, July 9-13. They are well over the 800 mark for registrants and are getting more and more each day.

The host hotel is the Marriott. They will have the 5 top Pontiac drag race drivers from the NHRA circuit. Warren "The Professor" Johnson, Jim Yates, Tom Martino, Mark Pawuk, and Bruce Allen. There will be a random drawing in which you can be the winner of one of these drivers to be your guest in your car for a cruise around Charleston. Jim Wangers is listed for a presentation on Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. and will be hosting the Jim Wangers/Pontiac Enthusiasts Magazine Drag Meet to be held at Kanawha Valley Dragway Park (www.kanrace.com). GUESTS AT THE 2002 CONVENTION

John Sawruk

John Sawruk, P. E., is Program Executive for General Motors. Just prior to this recent assignment, John was Engineering Director for the Pontiac Sunfire. John continues his speaking engagements for GM concerning Pontiac History.
John received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968 from Newark College of Engineering on a General Motors scholarship. In 1974, he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University. He started with Pontiac as an undergraduate summer student in 1967. He was assigned for ten years in Product Engineering, where he first worked on noise, vibration and stress in the Special Problems Laboratory. He then worked in the Experimental Engine Test group as Road Test Coordinator and on unleaded fuel engines. Next came a period in the Basic Engine group under 3Mac2 McKellar, followed by work on the Pontiac manufactured GM 2.5 liter four cylinder engine. John was Project Manager for this engine and received the seldom-given GM 3Boss Kettering2 award for some aspects of this work. John also worked in the lnduction-Emissions-Exhaust-Fuel System Staff and the Experimental Powertrain Department.
John officially has taken care of history for Pontiac since 1984 and continues to do so. In his historical role John gives speeches, advises consumers through Pontiac1s Customer Relations Department, manages the care and use of Pontiac1s Histoncal Car Collection, and acts as goodwill ambassador for Pontiac at historical conventions, show, and meets. John was and is instrumental in the set-up and restoration of the Pontiac Historical Car Collection (about 30 cars, including a 1909 Oakland, the very first Pontiac,
*/n 1 from 1926, and a 1964 GTO, among others).
John is the author of several SAE, technical, and career oriented papers, as well as many historical articles on Pontiac. His work has been published in national periodicals such as "Old Cars Weekly", "SMOKE SIGNALS", and "High Performance Pontiac" as well as books. He has also helped write and edit several major toy train books.
John collects Pontiac literature, models and toys, and promotional items, as well as Lionel and other electric toy trains. He also owns a rare 1971-1/2 Pontiac GT-37 and several other collectible Pontiacs. His GT-37 has won "Best of Show" at the GTOAA Nationals and its class at the POCI Nationals.

Jim Mattison

Jim Mattison hails from Sterling Heights, Michigan and is Historian Advisor to Pontiac-GMC Division. He is also the owner of Pontiac Historic Services and as such, has organized the Pontiac Division files into the only automotive service of its kind in the world.
Jim has owned and operated several successful automotive businesses, and has been actively involved in performance and racing over the years,
holding several SCCA & NHRA records. He has also restored a number of cars, the last car being a '67 Ram Air Firebird. His philosophy towards his work and his love of cars has been "Anything worth doing is worth doing right!" and, his hard working, competitive spirit comes through in whatever he tackles.
Jim sums up his feelings when he says "I feel very fortunate to have been in the right place and be a part of several popular and now collectible auto projects while a co-op student in the late '60s, then later in my career in the '90s." I guess history can repeat itself!

Jim Wangers

Jim Wangers is that rare combination of automotive enthusiast and automobile executive who was in the industry at the right place and the right time. After stints at Kaiser-Frazer, Chevrolet, and Chrysler, Wangers joined Pontiac1s advertising agency in 1958, where he successfully transmitted the passion of performance enthusiasts to Pontiac1s managers and engineers, who in turn developed products like the legendary GTO, Catalina 2+2, Firebird 400, and the Judge.

I'm from Ottawa, Ontario. I'm new to this board and just bought a 90 SSE two weeks ago. Not much to look at YET, but then again very LITTLE rust and seems to run good. Not on the road yet but soon(I hope). I've already been warned by the fiance, no racing. Hehe, we'll see. Besides the car was only 400$ at an auction.
