Late Season winter storm today.
Low pressure will track across the Southeast United States today, while a strong wedge of high pressure will keep unseasonably cold air in the region today. This will result in a mix of winter precipitation today.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 pm EDT this afternoon.
•Locations: generally north of a line from Hinton, to Union. To New Castle, to Amherst and Buckingham.
•Hazard types: snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
•Accumulations: additional snow and sleet accumulation today will be an inch or less, along with a trace to one tenth inch accumulation of ice.
•Timing: through early this afternoon.
•Impacts: untreated roads and surfaces will be slippery and hazardous, especially bridges, overpasses and other elevated surfaces.
•Winds: northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
•Temperatures: in the upper 20s to around freezing by early afternoon.
