Default Anyone know what is considered normal oil pressure for 3100?

I installed an oil pressure gauge yesterday in my new cutlass and its reading 25psi idle and around 40 psi 2000rpm (havn't had it higher yet) anyone know if it sounds normal for this engine? Thanks

There are always some givens to that tho... When was the last time the oil was changed? What oil filter do you have on the car? What kind of oil are you using? I'd say even 50 Psi would be good above idle...

Do the lifters chatter after the engine has run a couple of minutes or is it really quiet?
Oil just changed, 10w30 castrol syntec used, engine had piston slap, thats it as far as engine chatter is concerned, that is only when cold. I am using a K&N Oil Filter. I dont know how accurate the gauge is, is a mechanical one that has the line. Its been reading 25psi Idle and I think 40 running at 2000 RPM

Id get a mechanical gauge on that ASAP.

you dont want this happening:

^^ thats what happens when you ignore the dropping (by the day) oil pressure.

Why not??? Thats plenty of oil pressure. My 305 only gets 25psi at WOT.

I installed an oil pressure gauge yesterday in my new cutlass and its reading 25psi idle and around 40 psi 2000rpm (havn't had it higher yet) anyone know if it sounds normal for this engine? Thanks
Those are normal readings, those engines aren't like the 3800'*, they don't run tons of oil pressure. My Turbo 3.1 has a high volume oil pump and gets about double the readings you do, but like I said thats due to the high volume oil pump. Once it starts getting down in the 15psi range I'd get worried.

Oil just changed, 10w30 castrol syntec used, engine had piston slap, thats it as far as engine chatter is concerned, that is only when cold.
ALL 3100'* have piston slap on cold startup. GM is aware of this issue. When the cars were under warranty they would replace the engine only if the piston slap was for more than 2 minutes IIRC. Anyways, the piston slap is unfortunately normal and your oil pressure is fine.
