i was thinking maybe
this http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3799949

with this http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2413195

the radio itself has decent reviews from what ive read... (dont really need a whole lot better for my purposes) i figured the antenna would make it look like ive got satellite radio. the only issue ive got is i go to the carwash once a week. and removing antennas will get old quick lol. im thinking of reading up on whether or not i can share the rear window radio antenna with some modifications.

DO NOT do that. You'll have a crappy receive and your SWR will be high and untuneable.

I'm not a fan of window mount antennas myself. They usually receive fine, but the transmit is poor. A $25 magnetic antenna will give you much more performance and you can remove it easier for car washes.

lol im obviously a novice when it comes to cb. im still trying to talk myself out of getting one. but with how often im on the highway anymore its really hard to justify not getting one. ive been on the highway about 60-80 miles a day for the past 3 months. and the idiot drivers in memphis are getting old. let alone the 9 and 5 hour trips once a month north and south.

I so need to wash my car, but it was only 9* this morning. All I did was take a 3/8 swivel back out to my tool box. Broke mine and took it in to get it replaced.

dont waste your money on the cheap crap, i did then threw it away. now i have the same cb as mouse and the lil wil. i did as he said mounted on the trunk and throw it in the trunk for wash. i just use mine for a radar detector because the real ones dont work anymore(instant on=too late)

i was actually considering that. ive also been looking around for the past couple hrs and found this. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2295114#

seems to have good reviews wherever you look. as for the actual radio, the 2 reasons i chose it are because a) i dont plan on hardly talking on it if i even hook the mic up so outbound isnt really of concern for me, i just need it to get ok reception on 19. and b) because its got a 3 year manufacturer warranty on a product that is only $30. which makes me believe its made decently.

the radar is one of the main reasons i want it too. my pos cobra is useless now that the city of memphis is using lidar. only thing its good for is the visor radar that is on all the time.

an alternative is the escort live detectors that work with a smartphone, but im not gonna shell out $500+ just to avoid a $100 ticket. ive obviously got alot of research yet to do, and ive also gotta convince myself to drill holes in my dash. (that one is gonna be a toughy)

thanks for all the info guys, its much appreciated.

Your radio is fine for what you want, but our radio (Cobra 25 LTD) is the best cheap radio because of its features. RF gain, a good squelch adjust, and a noise blanker are all you really need to hear everybody good. The only other feature I can say someone would need, especially in your area, is the weather band.

I'm eventually gonna upgrade to a Galaxy with all the bells and whistles. Weather band, SSB, SWR meter on the front (gimmick), and other stuff. Dunno what I'm gonna do with the Cobra.

That antenna is fine, just make sure you tune it. I know you say you just wanna listen, but do it just in case you need to talk. I'd hate for you to burn out a radio.
