When you buy something it is yours and no one should tell you what you can or can't do with it, it is yours. I think I still live in the USA? but all the time your freedom is being taking away one step at a time , in the name of big brother looking out for us

Are some laws needed to protect us yes!! like driving where the driver can see a tv that'* on ? Well thats a no brainer ! and if you get caught than you should be
punished to the full Extant of the law..however dont punish whomever just cause someone puts it in there.. Thats just me and my $ 1.50

Yes people would actually watch the TV while driving. I had a head unit that had the flip out face and installed a in-car VCR to it ( no in car DVD players available at that time, hell DVD players in general were just coming out at that time). and if a movie was on while I was driving ( fiancé was watching it on road trips) I tended to watch the screen alot.

Mind you I was lucky that my head unit was fairly high in the dash on my truck and once the screen was open it was almost eye level. So you glance at it as you would your mirror, actually you have to look more out of your way to look out the rear-view mirror than to see my screen when it was in.


Word of advice don't watch "days of thunder" while driving, it gets you speeding tickets, trust me, LOL. That kind of give you an idea of what year this was being used, LOL.

A $16,000 fine is nothing for an auto customization shop. They will make up that cost with their next project! It'* like the FCC charging CBS a couple hundred thousand dollars after last year'* Super Bowl saga, when CBS routinely brings in millions of dollars every night.

Driver-side airbags are a federal law in the United States, and there is no legal way to disable or remove them. Pickup trucks only have the key-off feature for the passenger side, so child safety seats can be installed correctly without the risk of an airbag hitting them during a collision. Please get your facts straight.

This kind of federal regulation enforcement has been going on for a long time, this is just a new spin on it because of recent trends. I seriously doubt anyone was pulled away from the "war on terror" to deliver the fine to West Coast Customs. If I repeatedly and purposely break a federal law, I should expect to be punished if I am caught (such as detailing my exploits on a national TV show).

Well I don't know about you but YES YOU CAN REMOVE THEM. It is not that hard to disable or remove them. So to remove it and put a video screen is not easy but not entirely complicated. Actually it would be easier to install a video screen in a steering wheel that had an airbag in it than one that did not.

That'* exactly what I said (emphasis added in original post)... although there are some medical excuses, the largest majority of drivers do not qualify for that. Comments directed at those who implied otherwise, or made it sound as if truck airbags can be keyed off whenever you feel like it.

exaclty that is why these shops are getting charged since they are removing them. Right I think, ummm LOL

I was in a car crash with an airbag and i firmly believe that that airbag did more harm than good, it scuffed the entire right side my face, it bled a little, stung for over 2 weeks and was bright red for over a month, and that was the biggest injury i sustained in the accident, if airbags are now required by law then i dont think my next car is gonna be any newer than 1990 because i want one without the airbag. As for TV'* in the steering wheel, i doubt it would be any more dangerous than half the crap idiots do while driving, and they are definitely no more dangerous that the HU'* with a dvd screen. besides, dont all HU'* that play DVD'* not play if the car is in drive?

Why is this a law??? if I disable it and than get hurt or worse, well thats my fault,and that should be the end of story! so than every one could say how stupid that was to do , how ever the real end result is Ive hurt no one but myself!! airbags don't stop accidents from happening .

Now if I disable it and than sell the car with out telling the buyer thats a different story. if the buyer got in an accident, gets hurt or worse than yes I should be held liable.

the thing is if you buy it you should be abel to do anything you whant to do to it unless its a hazard to others .

The same reason they have Construction Standard laws, gun laws, speed limit laws, etc. To try thier very best to protect us all from the morons. Or the morons from themselves....
