Default Guns, conceal and carry, self defense.

Anyone else here currently a conceal and carry permit holder?
I have started to take a real interest in protection, and carrying my own gun. How restrictive is it? Has it ever bailed you out of a tough situation? Not talking about anything unlawful here, just legal self defense. I might add that I do not yet own a weapon or have a permit, considering a SIG 9mm or similiar

I plan on getting a permit. It will cost me $100 to get the permit to carry a weapon on me at all times and it will last for 4 years and then it is $50 a year for renewal. I could have used a weapon a few times.

You could just move to texas and carry a shotgun over your shoulder, We've got a few guys in town I've never seen without a gun....

I'm not *against* the general public being allowed to carry concealed weapons... but I think some considerable training should be required before permits are handed out. Do you know how to keep someone from taking your gun away, and using it against you? Do you know the legalities of using a deadly weapon against someone? Are you confident that you could hit whatever you happen to shoot at?

Law enforcement personnel are heavily trained on these matters all the time, and mistakes still happen when deadly force is used. It seems like the chances of Joe Schmo making a deadly mistake might be higher, if the standards are even lower for issuing general public permits. Just a few issues to seriously consider before you pack heat!

I've carried for 8 years now (legally, of course). Interesting statistics. Every State that has enacted a 'Carry' law has seen a decline in the amount of violent crime. No criminal likes the prospect of his intended victim being possibly armed.

I've had a couple situations where it was good I had it, and had to pull it out, but not aim or fire. I've had a couple more where it stayed concealed, but I was damn glad I had it with me. With a family, it'* a totally different sitauation, so I find myself carrying more frequently when the kids are with me than when I'm alone.

My personal PRIMARY carry gun is a Colt 1991A1 Compact .45, but the only Colt components remaining are the frame, slide, and barrell. All other components are Wilson Combat, and I did the work myself. My backup (shorts pocket concealable) is a Taurus 5-shot 38 special with a ported barrel. I carry a speedloader with it.

No worries NOBODY carrying a legally concealed weapon in the State of Oregon has ever been even remotely involved in a questionable incident. This holds true for other States as well, including Texas, which is one of the most recent to allow concealed carry.

The background investigation and training is pretty involved. At least in Oregon. Most States are very similar. For this reason, you get clean, reliable, intelligent people carrying concealed, not riff-raff.

If you carry do us a favor and be sure to hit the range often. I don't carry much it everyone who I know shgrin but if I did I'd hit what I aim @. It sends a chill down me when there are a few people I know who carry and IMO I don't think if the time came could do well cause they don't train. It takes some effort to make that snap draw shot. If I could carry on base I'd get a lic. Other than that I go on a trip It'* not on me but near.
