its nice to be lower to the ground in those types of conditions too, there was a big wreck that night with a mommy van, those things tip over if you look at them funny

Eek, I hope everyone in the van was ok..
Higher center of seating and top heavy boxes or baskets dont help much either.
Sometimes though you need more ground /snow clearance. I would probably tear the front plastic skirt off the Buick if it was deep w/ frozen chunks or even deep ruts.
I am a bit nervous in my 4x4 as it'* lifted, and keep that well in mind when driving it.
I keep my speeds down in nasty conditions, and it is scarey on the hwy when PU truck guys or larger SUV'* go flying by you, with no respect for others.
often expect to see them in the ditch later...LOL.

i cant tell you how many times i have seen people fly by in those little suvs and end in the ditch or snow bank. some people think they can go faster with 4wd but the reality is they take longer to stop. not the sort i stop and help either.

Sure you can go with 4x4 or AWD, but you can't stop and so many people run without snow tires here that is really stupid.

I live on an unplowed dirt road and on some of the bends it can be very dangerous.

There is probably at least a foot or more of new snow on the ground on top of the 4 inches I had. Most of the snow drifts are two to three feet high, and some may even be over 4 foot on the hills.

Made for a fun day with the snowmobiles.

i havent had a set of snow tires since my 86 escort i had 94-96. that thing was a beast in the snow but once you try bfg traction t/a'* or the newer all season they have now in the snow and ice its not much different and you dont have to bother with two sets of tires.

we have training facilities in OKC and it seems to get a ton of ice everytime i go, this one time they had like an inch or two overnight, everything was shut down and i was on my way home that day. didnt do to bad, was passing eveyone down there anyway.
i had to run it for half an hour before i could even get in it.

heres what it looks like right now, kids school got cancelled again because of the wind chill being like -10 and getting 18inches over a 24hr period. so we all just stayed home. im going to have to go out this afternoon and at least make a path so we can get out the driveway not looking forward to it.

Aint winter fun? Wow you guys actually have snow and by the looks of it especially Justin, your gettin nailed!
I would not know what to do If my car was ever coated in ice like that, without remote start.
All I have is a powerful 120v hairdryer, and hope I could get the drivers door open!
Here it is light rain and 48F, only had one dump in late Dec with 3 inches.
Since then, it'* been warm and wet.
Good luck getting a path cleared Justin..take a pic afterwards of your "cool" work!

have to see if i feel like taking a pic after being out there for an hour. ugh. wish i could afford a good plow for the yukon. not the best at getting rid of the snow but at least i could get in it and turn on the heat.

seems like they get ice storms everytime i go down there, had nothing but the remote start, i was at a hotel. the people that live down there have car ports or garages on just about every house, they get a ton of hail and ice

Ya those darn plows can get fairly pricy $$
Problem is they also put a lot of weight/ stress on the truck as well.
What other solutions are there? I think a Bobcat or front end loader with cab would be a dream, though really big $.
But real handy on a property, and could make $ with it.
