Default A weekend in flying machines (lots of photos)

My boss had suggested some time ago I might like to play with his toys and we finally got the chance with a break in the weather. Our toys for the day? A single engine 4 seater airplane and a dual turbo V8 limited edition car.

We started our day in Bromont in the Eastern Townships. Our itinerary included doing the circuit around downtown Montreal a couple of times, then off to Lachute in the lower Laurentions for lunch, attempting a fly over of Montreal International airport, and then sightseeing the Eastern Townships.

Here'* a quick photo of our excursion around Montreal;

Here'* a photo of some of the sightseeing around Bromont;

If you'd like to see the gallery of shots you can find them here;

Here'* link for the details on the plane;

One of the more intersting moments was when, as we were leaving the Montreal sightseeing circuit on the way to Lachute, we were advised that a Gulfstream jet was approaching at 2,000 feet, we were at 2,500 because of cloud cover, we were doing 100 knots and he was doing 400 knots. He was on our exact reciprical course and passed 500 feet below, one thing you never want is a jet to pass a propellor aircraft over the top, the turbulence is very dangerous.

I did get the chance to fly most of the day despite being only my second time in a small aircraft. Got to do 3 touch and goes at Bromont, I didn't actually put the aircraft on the ground but I did fly it to 20 feet of the ground. Once on the runway I got the controls once again for the takeoff and go around...very cool indeed B) B)

Once back on the ground I got to try his Audi RS6. These are very rare cars as production has now ceased after 999 cars were made. It'* an all wheel drive 4.2 Litre V8 with dual turbos and massive Brembo brakes.

Here'* a couple of shots;

More details on the RS6 here;

http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/audi_rs6.asp

Those of you that have driven with me know I'm not shy so I did get to test out the grip a little :P . Let me tell you, the Brembo brakes are simply awesome . Holy mother of pearl do they stop!!!! The 6 piston calipers themselves are larger than most GM brake assemblies combined.

It'* a quick car but really the power seems most obvious while travelling at twice the speed limit! That said, the good old Bonneville seems faster up to about 140 Km. My boss insisted on trying the Bonneville after I'd popped the hood and started it up. He was like a kid in a candy store because massive torque is not something the RS6 has...his comment after?..."This is a real muscle car!".

The follwing day was a get together with the Ontario Quebec Club Grand Prix in the nation'* capital of Ottawa Ontario. We met at one of our sponsor'* shops in the area, had a good chat with another sponsor from Toronto who did my tranny, headed off for a cruise, go karting and then dinner. Very awesome day, here'* a couple of shots;

All in all a very awesome weekend that just might tide me through the winter

Cheers,
