I bought a new 2011 gmc 4 door 4 wheel drive 1/2 ton in july. since the day i got it i have had problems with the speakers rattling i have taken the truck in 3 times now only to find out it is not the speakers rattling but both rear door panels instead. as well as the locks. no i dont have bose i just have reg speakers but they will rattle on any kind of music loud or not at any given moment. i have a 2002 gmc z71 that doesnt have a rattle in it yet my forty thousand dollar gmc rattles like hell. so the dealership i bought it from told me they had no idea how to fix the prob and they are all made the same and will all rattle. and i should put a sub in it to pull the base from the doors (which voids radio warranty). or i could tape the locks. (new truck+tape=me pissed.) so i take it to another dealership and they tell me my expectations are to high for the truck.... huh? 40 grand and my expectations are to high for a 4 month old pickup? so i take it a step higher and call GM directly yesterday (10/24/11) they said we will have to call the dealership and call you back tomorrow. so they called me back about an hr ago and asked me what i wanted them to do since the dealership couldnt figure out what was wrong or how to fix it???? really? they said it was my problem and if the dealership couldnt fix it they didnt know what to tell me. is customer service really this bad? i would expect it from dodge but i have always had good luck with gm. when i buy a new one they throw me to the curb. so this is why im posting if i can prevent them from selling just one truck i will consider it even. hope no one else is having this problem.

My 2007 Av did that crap too. Rear door locks would rattle. No Bose.

I just ended up shoving a piece of folded up paper in them, worked like a charm and didn't fall out from the auto locks. Should a 40-50k truck do that? No. Did I let it bother me? No.

it bothers me just like you said a 40k dollar truck shouldnt have a rattle i could have bought used for alot less and been ok with a rattle

as a guy with alot of trucks i can see where your coming from but it shouldnt be that hard to fix it yourself.Replace with aftermarket speakers or if its the panels rattling install some sort of dampening.I can see how a 40k truck rattling would **** you off but these are just minor issues

I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 2 door. I don't have the factory speakers in there or radio. I don't have any rattles at all.

The only I can complain about is the driver window switch doesn't work like it should. I plan on taking it to the dealer when I get a chance. If you press the switch sometimes the window won't go down or it will only go down about half way.

If the dealer can't fix a rattle on a new truck then their workshop must be be crewed by ape men.
Then GM say if the dealer can't fix it it'* not their problem?? WTF kind of customer care is this?.

I bet the Totota dealer down the road doesn't have customers with your issues.

I know you guys mostly want to be patriotic and keep fellow Americans in work, but standards like this are why the car buying public flocked to the importers showrooms.

The company I work for makes those door panels, and I can assure you any level of rattle is absolutely not acceptable. If that rattle were detected at the assembly plant during any of the extensive squeak and rattle testing they do on a regular basis our engineers would be hauled in there and told to get it fixed. GM does not consider any squeaks or rattles to be acceptable on any vehicle.

If the door trim panel is rattling, it is not installed properly. They are designed to have a 2 to 3 mm crash fit to the sheet metal, which means they edges of the panel spring a little when installed and create a preload on the door clips to keep the panel tight to the sheet metal. Lock rod rattle is a very common problem which is usually solved by a piece of felt tape applied at the rattle point. If these lock rods are susceptible to rattle I am sure there is supposed to be a counter measure installed in the panel (like felt tape).

Based on having gone in to GM assembly plants to fix these types of issues, I would start my investigation by looking at two things. If the lock rod is rattling, the counter measure may be missing, or installed out or position. The remedy would be to apply a piece of PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) backed felt tape or foam to isolate the lock rod from the contact point. If the door panel is not seated properly, I would suspect it had been removed and re-installed at some point and the clips were not replaced. The plastic clips that secure the door trim panel are supposed to be single use and are to be replaced if the panel is removed and replaced. The remedy would be to remove the door trim panel, install new clips, and re-install the panel.

Continue to elevate your issue until it is resolved. Door panel rattle in a new GM vehicle is absolutely not an acceptable condition, and the people telling you your expectations are too high need to be smacked. The people telling you they don't know how to fix this should to be fired.

there is probably 30-40 gm dealers around here within an hours drive. ive found one out of all them that actually cares and has a decent service department. its unfortunate but maybe if you call around you can find someone else to go to. it seems like they would put more effort into it because now i bought my last car from there and had my mom buy her car there, and they are the first place i will look next time because i know it will be taken care of.

i have a gm dealer right across the street from my shop i may stop over and see what they have to say about this.I know they cant fix it due to we are in michigan but still see how they feel

after working in many assembly shops and experiencing customer mishaps and paying the price in my own shops i understand where you're coming from. usually something like this isnt considered a huge issue by dealers since it doesnt affect the performance of the vehicle.. but that doesnt mean they need to be treating you this way. that drives customers away. Sounds like they just dont want to bother with the companies over something like this when really the company NEEDS to know so the issue can be fixed. Good luck to you.
