Default should I buy a GTP? -nope-

I have the opportunity to purchase a white 98 GTP with 189k with a blown motor. He said it had really bad knock and then would not start. I found a replacement motor for $500. The car is mint otherwise, black heated leather, chrome wheels.

I could probably get it for 1000-1300. However, book is only $2700-3000 on it.

Should I get it and part it out, or get it and drop a new motor in it, or just not get it at all.

here is the craigslist ad if you are wondering: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/car/515664588.html

With the lack of pictures and the mileage, I'd still pass on it, even if I was going to part it out. If you do part it out, it would probably be quite a while until you see a return on your investment...

If you think it'* worth it, it wouldn't hurt to check it out, I still don't think you'll get 1000-1300 dollars out of it anytime soon...
Just my two cents

I agree with petraman. If you were going to buy it to use as a daily driver, then it would be totally worth it. Other then that, I think you might have a hard time getting $1000 back in parting it out, not to mention that even if you did, it might take a year or more

I definitely wouldn't pay $1300 for it. Probably closer to $750. Tops.

Let him sit on it. He'll learn it'* not worth what he'* asking.

Honestly, I would offer about 750 like Mark said and get the 500 buck motor and just drive it, you mentioned in another thread that having two cars was cheaper on insurance versus one.

honestly I think you probably could make money. You could even sell rotten ham for 10 bucks.

I'm liking that option right now.

I really think I could sell it for more than book around here, GTP'* are HOT for all those punk high school kids. If I put some 20'* on it, I could sell it for $7000

I think you should buy it.
You know the mechanicals on that car inside out. It will be a snap for you to work on....and a pleasure I'm sure.

Fixed up and detailed with a 13 sec time slip should be worth $5 K to someone.

Need to check for wear and tear on the interior.
