I'm with DDalder, yo really have no hard proof they opened it at this point, so it'* just not worth the effort. I would work the other way and thank them again just in case the same delivery mistake acidentally happens again; At least you would probably see your stuff, but if you called the cops and it happened again you can be sure you wouldn't.
I'm so tired I'm not sure that makes sense; I hope it does.

^ True. Unless the people who opened it admitted to it when confronted by the cops, I doubt anything would happen. The lack of the box could mean that gojo threw it out.
Now IMO, I don't think anyone would go through the trouble of filing a charge against someone for opening their mail unless that person(*) actually did it. But still, I don't think it'* worth the headache if you ask me. He got his things that were intended for him. I would however make sure those people knew I was pissed and to never do it again.

I would have been pissed....
But at the same time lets keep in mind I live on the outskirts of town.... I am on 1 acre, the neighbor is on 1.25 acres and another on .50 acre and the other on 2.8 acres... Hard to screw it all up and the neighbors are very respectful... If I accidentally get their mail I take it to them... It nice to have it that way...
But if you live in an apartment complex or duplex or the like it may be wise to have the package shipped to a good trustworthy friends house... Because of where I am I have no issues with UPS, DHL, Fedex and the like... So for that I am lucky..
I do not open other peoples mail and I sure don't want them to open mine
