Default Road Runner cancelled.

I had to call the cable company about the bill so I figure I'd do what Bandit did and get them to discount the price or boost the speed of Road Runner by cancelling it. I've had RR for 10 years now and instead of trying either of those two options they said "Okay, you'll just need to turn in the equipment. Do you have an office nearby to drop it off at?" and within 5 minutes my cable modem was flashing.

My Fios install is scheduled for Friday!

LMAO - twice the speed at almost 1/2 the price

Hmmmm.... I have "canceled" many times only to have them reduce the price. Interesting. bad part around here is I only have Road Runner or dial up. The only phone company has DSL, but not available to me, even though my next door neighbors have it

Yeah it totally caught me off guard and then I couldn't get to the fios site to signup LOL. I had to do it from work.

I had called my wife and told her it was cancelled and turned off and an hour later she called back letting me know she sent me an email

Just the basic 10mb package @ 29.95/mo. Thats still twice as fast as my RR was.
They said I could upgrade at no additional charge if I wanted more but I don't do all that much downloading, mostly I like a stable connection for the few games I play.

10851 kb/* download
1983 kb/* upload

I LIKE !!!!!

One guy runs fiber optic cable from their nearest junction box to near the house... if they have the extra body otherwise the one installer gets to do it all.
The other guy wires up the Fiber Optic interface box and battery backup somewhere inside, typically in the garage or basement, and reroutes you old phone line to the new Fiber Interface box.
Then he runs either cable or Ethernet cable to the room you have your PC in. If you get the base package (10Mb/*) they'll use the cable line esp if you have/had RR already wired. They connect to their wireless router, its a bit large, and insert a usb drive into your pc and run the setup from it. Setup takes about 5 minutes.

Hardware in garage: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...m/DSCF1667.jpg
the large white-ish box on the right is the Interface box, below that is the telephone line juction box, the two to the left of that are the battery backup and its power supply.

(Rather Large) Wireless router with my old Linksys on top of it for size comparison: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...m/DSCF1669.jpg

The whole install took about 4 hrs. and the guy does 1 per day.

Ok, I've been doing some comparisons vs my neighbors 5mb/* RR.

Web page loading speed goes to RR
Torrent download is a tie. Max i get is 100k on both :(
Torrent uploads go to Fios
Newsgroup download go to RR (using the vendor supplied news server)
HTTP: download - tied - at least I couldn't find a site that would take advantage of the extra bandwidth.
FTP - haven't tested. Know any good & fast FTP servers?

Anything else anyone else would like checked.
