Default Update on the job situation

Well today is 3 weeks i have been jobless. And as of today (after paying my car insurance), i am as close to broke as i have ever been. I have offically 30 bucks in my bank account and about another 30 in the wallet.

I have my name in 3 different hiring agencies and as Boosty knows, been VOLUNTEERING at a local nursing home to try and get a job. Figuring if they see the way i work and my interaction with the residents they might offer me a job. (being a nuring student this is right up my alley). I was told to put an application in by the director, but also told that it could be at miniumim 2-3 more weeks before even 1 postion is open. My application will be in monday morning bright and early lol. I have not heard from 1 of the agencies. I called them and they gave me the "Its that time of year and everyone is looking for work" speech. I guess i never realized how hard it was to get a job around here. So it is A.) tough it out and hope for a job at the nursing home (which of course i would love, but waiting 2-3 more weeks with no money is the problem here). OR B.) call up my old job (UPS). And see if they can get me in, even if it is for another month. They left a message on my machine yesterday saying call them, but nothing else. (i mean i dont want to go back there, because when i hurt my self they pretty much said aww well your replacable, goodbye).

It sucks being unemployed and sucks even more being broke lol. I am sooo happy i had money in the bank incase something like this happened. I have literally spent almost ever dollar saved for my L67 swap. I was about 200 bucks short and now all is gone. BUt all my bills are paid til next month. So i have atleast that long before i have to worry about actual bills. Now is just food and gas.

PS- just had to vent a little

Keep your chin up! I went through the same crap when I moved back home (michigan) from Tejas...Unemployed 3 months with not a dime to my name, truck was repo'd, etc etc...i settled for a job filling vending machines, 20 hours a week for $6/hr...I'm back on my feet now with a solid, good paying job.

I'm getting off topic...this is about you...like I said, keep your chin up, and even if you have to work somewhere you don't want to...even for a month, sometimes you've just gotta do what you've gotta do, ya know?

I'm sure everything will fall into place soon enough...just feel lucky you don't live in the state with a government that'* about to collapse...

Michigan Government Shutdown (Article)

Good luck to ya, TJ!

PS- Sometimes venting is perfectly acceptable...

Absolutely, vent away. We all fall on hard times, and venting is sometimes necessary. As long as you're not wallowing in your misery and not doing anything, (Which you are obviously not doing), then it is perfectly acceptable to vent.
Hope things work out for you. Maybe you'll get lucky and something will work out sooner with the Nursing home. Maybe you should call UPS. I wouldn't want to go back to a place like that either, but being broke is no fun. Plus, you can leave them then when the nursing hoe position works out.
I give you much credit for volunteering in the mean time. Not a lot of people would do that.

Keep looking and keep punding the pavement. Try to hand those apps back to the person who does the hiring.
Does you school have an employment dept? My friends wife in RN school found she was legally allowed to work different jobs as she progressed thru school (aide to lpn). Maybe they have some tutoring jobs you could do too.

File for unemployment anyways, worst they can say is no.

Check local pizza shops and see if they need a delivery guy; used to make good money only working fri, sat, & sun all under the table too.

If you go back to UPS, be careful; I'd be sad to see you hurt yourself and then not be able to do a nursiing job.

As Brian said, alot of us have been there done that. I still got credit card bills from when I had to live off them.

Good Luck and keep us informed.

Brother just called. I start tomorrow working with him at his job. It is for a landscraping/ snow removal company. It is only about 4 weeks of full time work then whenever it snows, but i will take it lol. Pay is great and it is work i like. Plus in the winter the pay is very good, so even if i only work 1 day a week, i will still make almost as much as i made for a whole week at ups.

Well he has been there only for about a year and went from a laborer to the boss lol. He makes all the calls there. I have been after him for a job for about 6 months but the owner didnt want anyone else, well tonight the owner told him to hire someone. My brother called me and asked me and i was like of course, i would like a job

So i am going to suck up my 40 hours a week and as much overtime as i can get right now. I havent been able to enjoy myself in almost a month and i am going to now. LOL. I havent been able to spend 1 dollar on anything besides bills.
