Default Unreal Christmas (heart attack)

It all started as a regular x-mas. Dinner and gift opening at my parents on x-mas eve, then x-mas day Crystal and myslef went to her parents house for round 2. Well we got there and her father wasn't feeling well, so he wanted to open the gifts anyhow. Well about a half hour to an hour into it he couldnt take it anymore and her mother brought him tothe hospital where they spent the rest of the day. Only to find out that he was having a heart attack. We got a call at around 6:30 pm telling us that he was being transfered hospitals and getting operated on right away. We got there as soon as we could and met up with her mother. The doctor came 5 minutes later to tell us what was going on and that another doctor was on his way in to do the procedure. By the time the doctor finished explaining everything to us and what will have to change, the other doctor arrived, did the procedure and by the time the first doctor was done talking to us and left, the other doctor came in and told us he was done.

They managed to go in by his leg, and get to his heart, clear the one blockage and put in a stint. The pain finally wetn away at around 11pm and he got some sleep. He was in pain since 3am while he was at work, and been up since 5pm the previous day, so he needed some sleep.

We are going to go back to the hospital this afternoon to visit as you only get 30 mins, 5 times a day visitation and only 2 people can go. So you have to plan when you are going.

So it was a long day yesterday for sure.

Not really sure yet. He couldn't move one of his legs this morning but that may be cause of the needles still in there. I will know more this afternoon when we go visit.

Damn, not a good way to spend Christmas. A friend of ours in in the hospital as well (had a stroke last week) and the staffing at our medical centres are not good during the holidays.

I hope hangs in there and gets better soon!

He was having chest pains form 3am while he was still at work, and took him till about 10:30 am to finally go to the hospital.

He is moving out of intensive care today so we should be going to visit him later on.

It'* really good to hear he'* moving out of the CCU/ICU. This is very much a positive sign. Hopefully the damage was minimal. They should have an idea based on blood work and angiography. The next 30 days will be crucial for him.

Chest pain is one of those things not to take chances with. Statistics have shown that approximately 50% of cardiac chest pain patients arrive to hospital by private vehicle. Definitely something that warrants an ambulance. It can get a lot more tricky with diabetics, many females and the elderly since heart attack symptoms present differently. This is referred to as an atypical presentation. Sometimes no symptoms are present and the heart attack is only revealed down the road with a routine electrocardiogram.

Well he got released from hospital this afternoon. Now starts his recovery. He can't work for at least a month, and can't drive for a month either.

You know...on one hand it seemed like a terrible xmas...but on the other hand...thank goodness he got the help in time, and was able to be helped. Years ago he wouldn't have been so lucky... yes, he should fully recover and will likely feel far better than he has in years. He will need to consider changing his diet and exercise to help prevent future blockages.

I would consider this to be a great xmas...you got to keep your future father-in-law a little bit longer. Sometimes that is not an option for people.
