but i will ask anyway. Anywhere else in the country while riding on the streets and highways you use Ch. 19 to talk on the radio. Why is it different in I-5 that you have to be on Ch. 5 for usage?

I know. But on Interstate 5 that runs through Washington, Oregon and California, ALL truckers use Ch 5 to talk. Opensourceguy, I understand what your saying. But just this one interstate, they just use CH 5 for comunication.

hmm... could just be a fluke.. not related to anything. Do you know of any airports it may interfere with? I don't know about their radio equipment, but the signals may become mixed up, so the truckers switched channels. Other than that, I don't see anything else it could be related to.

It'* because of the amount of traffic on I-5. All the other intersecting freeways use channel 19, and it overloads that channel. Once you hit I-5, you can ignore all the other freeways if you switch to 5.

I know while driving I always leave mine on 19 to see what is going on if anything. Once and a while I get real close to a couple of trucks and they over power anything else so I scan the channels and find them and listen to them until can't hear them anymore.
But up here it is the same, 19 is the main channel and 9 for emergency.
I have had a few good warnings while listening to the radio, but they don't seem to like us 4 wheelers much, LOL. So I usually don't talk much to them just listen.
