Why I don't drive a Sentra
Sister drives an 06 Nissan Sentra 1.8S. Pretty nice little car. She was driving down the highway yesterday and heard a firecracker noise. This is why:
Surprisingly there was zero tire damage. Nissan wanted 600 to replace the wheel initially. I tthink they are going to cover it though, it has to get re-evaluated by someone higher up. I should be able to find a stock replacement online far cheaper if need be though. Weird thing is, my sister'* boss had the same exact thing happen to his Maxima last summer.

Wow, that'* amazing. My friend has a sport Sentra (got the faster motor, I presume), and manages to lose traction in 2nd gear. Pretty quick little thing...

I'd seriously send pictures of that wheel to someone other than the dealer. NHTSA maybe?
A wheel failure like that has to be some kinda manufacturing/materials/design defect. I've NEVER seen a wheel break like that before. Ever.
Damn.

One of my profs was best friends with someone who while inflating a tire, a similar thing happened, and a piece of the metal went into his head and killed him. Scary

Wow Scary!! If that happened to me, I would be swapping out those rims entirely. I would be afriad to drive it knowing that it could happen again.
Glad your sister is okay after it happened.
