I was way-off on snowfall prediction, thought 3 or 4 inches. They can't even snow plow the public roads.
So I guess the proper acknowledgment is to eat crow:

The weather service just don't get it. They say if they don't worn then they are at fault for not preventing. But when they cry wolf over and over again, people start to ignore what'* being said. They predicted a foot here, we got almost no new snow. Yes, we had a good 10-12 inches and the high winds really made a mess. But they said another 12 inches on top of what we had.

We are at 29" here in Lake Zurich. Nothing to worry about, but hundreds of cars did get abandon on roads in Lake county, one couple were stuck in the car for nine hours. Guess it doesn't hurt to make sure gas tank is filled before driving and having some chow and water in the car not a bad thing. Overreaction- absolutely, real storm- yes.
People feed on this stuff. Rumor in Chicago was more people listened to Dion Sanders tweet about Jake Cutler than the President'* State of the Union address (I listened to neither).
BTW- after I saw a graphic that the President was stating education, infrastructure and technology being the answer to our economic future, I concluded that he was still had no idea what the real problem was and likely wouldn't as long as lobbyist from Wall Street set his business policies.
To fix our economy is pretty simple. Force a policy that generates energy domestically and does it now (offshore drilling with no restrictions, nuke plants with no restrictions and huge subsidies for hydrogen dispensing stations), ban corporate mergers( stop oligopolies- have companies compete against each other- competition breeds greatness), require all cellphones/ smartphones sold in the USA to be assembled in the USA and all components made in USA (not one cell phone is made in USA vast majority of Americans have them). Simple plan, but it would do it. Maybe Apple and others would take some of their billions in profits and invest it in manufacturing in the USA. Nobody would give up USA market- it would be a feeding frenzy watching tech companies reopening shut down plants like the fifty acre plant Motorola shut down ten years ago in Harvard, Illinois- it was super high tech and only five years new when shut down.
Anyways, back to the snow patrol,
