Default XP Pro and IE 6 Limits downloading??

Got a question for ya, and yes, its probaly very simple, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.

Anytime I go to download a file from a webpage: mp3, avi, mpg, wmv whatever, it limits my downloading to 2 files per download. Now in Win98 and IE5, I could download as many as I wanted. How do I change the settings to increase the number of simulataneous download?

Thanks

There is a registry hack, but most sites will limit you anyways, they normally have a set # of connections per user.

IE 6 registry setting, so it'* not terribly easy, but it'* do-able, do a google for it. I never noticed an increase from it so i don't use it anymore.

I could to, but it never did anything for me, I tried some others that did stuff like use RAM fully before pagefile for XP, and that made it HORRIBLE, i even had 2x the recommended amount (i have 512 RDRAM)....

The 1.1 spec limits the number of simultaneous connections any one browser can make to a given server. It'* a way to ensuring there are enough connections to go around. This IE tweak turns off IE'* built-in compliance with this standard, and lets your copy of IE open far more simultaneous connections with a server. This means your browser can grab many chunks of a web page at one time, speeding load times.

But it also makes your browser a connections "pig," consuming more than its fair share of server connectivity. It makes your browser a selfish net entity.

But this tweak is public knowledge now--- so I'll tell you about it, with a caveat.

One specific thing that this tweak accomplishes it to allow you to download more than two files at once from a site, since each d/l uses one connection.

Also, since this involves hacking your registry, proceed at your own risk.

1. Open Regedit (Start---Run--- and type 'regedit' [without quotes] )

2. Navigate to the following folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\InternetSettings

3. Create the following "DWORD" : MaxConnectionsPerServer

4. Set the value to any high number (the default is 2)

5. Creat the following "DWORD" MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

6.Set the value to any high number as well (the default is 4)

89BonnieSE89, How much ram do you have? The min requirement is 128mb. It likes 256mb but loves 512mb.
