try cent os. i haven't tried to dual boot with it, i just installed it on my old computer and it works fine. you can get a free download of it here

if you want to get linux off the drive and have everything work again........us a 98 boot disk to go into dos and format the drive with linux on there......I have to use that method a lot......just go to boot disk .com or whatever.......

Not familiar with RAID, but is it possible that the "active" partition (or MBR on your boot drive) was overwritten and just needs to be restored to boot windows?

to my knowledge, Linux doesn't like SATA all that much yet. I've heard of alot of people having problems booting from sata drives. Aslo heard of people having problems enabling DMA access to drives on VIA chipsets, fwiw.
