Driving With O/D on or off at the beach?
If i put this in the wrong place i apologize but i didnt know where else to put it.
Anyway Heres the deal I have a old 2001 Ext cab F-150 4x2, and i have some friends that want to go with me to the beach, because another guy always has alot of people in his 4 door toyota tacoma, well awhile back me and the guy with the tacoma went out there and his truck got stuck in the sand he doesnt have 4 wheel drive either just traction control, but it wouldnt budge he also was using overdrive when this happened he had to get it towed from a fellow beach person that was around. My question to you guys is does driving with overdrive on make a difference or should you drive with low gear or what are your suggestions so the tranny wont kill over. Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless he'* driving down the beach at 50 mph OD is not a issue. Stuck is stuck no mater if your in low range or not. The key is to keep moving and not spin the tires.

Overdrive is essentially another gear. By turning overdrive off you are not allowing the trans to get into this higher gear. I would compare it to tow haul mode, when you are hauling a trailer you don't want to be shifting gears every 30 seconds or every slight hill you come to, so you turn overdrive off.

I wouldnt use OD but whether its on or off wont prevent u from getting stuck. Tire choice is the biggest factor here. A wide tire will do best. the tallness of tire doesnt even matter much.
Use a wide tire and dont accelerate quickly while going slow

Are you really asking..
Should I be in regular high gear or low gear? There is a large difference in ratio and you'd still want to be in high unless pulling another truck. At that point, you'd want all the torque you can get and low would be the better choice.
