Yup. Beleive it or not, those were based on the European Ford Escort.
Loosely based, of course...
It'* kind of like the Renault Clio and the Renault Clio 6, same starting point, wildly different end result...

"Eek! Heavy, baby!!" I think my favorite small car bad-a$$es are either the Chevette'* that some nut-jobs put Caddy 500ci motors in, and the Focuses that a couple of companies are swapping Mustang motors into. You can even get the Focus dropped onto a '04 Cobra SC motor. Focus with 390hp,
