I'm in the same boat, Exept my parents have bad credit... I basically find credit worthless and just keep my rainy day fund nice and plump.

You can also apply for cards that are based on your savings in order to build credit. Also, if you have a savings account with an ATM, I think you can apply for an ATM with a credit card endorsement on it...which helps convince the credit card company you're trustworthy. (I'm not actually sure why that makes a difference.)

I don't plan on even using the credit aspect of it now... I just want it to by gas and buy stuff of the net. If it helps build my credit for when I go to own a house, why not?

I work a seasonal job over the summer... I make decent cash... about 1,200 monthly. I've been doing that for about 4 years...

Take whatever you can get, but be warned. Keep tabs on your spending and be very careful to keep the balance manageable.

I am 26 right now and can't get a descent CC at all. I've tried. I have a house, I make between 5060g a year, have plenty of spending money, but due to my past credit from a few years ago I can't get a CC for nothin.

Now that said, I hate buying anything on credit. I will use my checkcard/visa card to buy stuff, but that comes straight out of my account. Since the day I paid off my last credit card debit I have been a happier person. I have fewer bills to worry about per month, more money to spend (not paying interest charges anymore), and have a ton more savings tucked away then I used to when I was using CC'* (which was no savings).

My advice it to get whatever card you can, use it sparingly, and keep just a minimal balance on it and pay the rest off every month. Anything more than that and you have the oportunity to get in a possition that will hurt you more than help you.

My advice...start off small. Pretty much any bank should give you a credit card if you agree to have a secured balance. So basicly, if you want say a 500 dollar credit limit, you put 500 in an account and you can't touch it. This way your bank knows where to get the money if you don't pay up, and you can build your credit rating by charging and paying your bill on time. It'* kinda like training wheels, but it helps. I think after a period of time the bank eventually allow you to release that money and credit cards should be easier to come by because of your new, hopefully beautiful, credit rating.

I luckily just got a credit card despite being unemployed at the moment. I of course used the "household income" as the application said, which obviously helped. $500 limit but that will be enough to fix my car. So I'm happy.

Good luck Andrew on getting a card!
