Unhappy On-Star actually Works...

firstly, my great uncle died yesterday. it'* ironic because exactly one year ago yesterday, my aunt died. so, i guess april fool'* day is cursed for me. anyhow, thanks to on-star, we were given enough time to say our goodbyes before he passed. here'* the story.

my uncle ed has had heart problems for the last 30 years. last year, it was estimated that only 15% of his heart was functioning and somehow thanks to modern medicine and a defibulator/ pace maker, he lived well for the last few years without having to change his lifestyle much. well, monday he woke up not feeling well. his wife tried to make him go to the hospital but he didn't go because there was a meeting at the VFW hall that he didn't want to miss. tuesday, he didn't feel much better. so, after a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs, he remembered that he had an appointment that afternoon with his heart doctor. his wife decided to drive and they were in the middle of nowhere when she looked over at him and to her horror, saw he was blue and appeared to be dead. they don't have cell phones so she hit the On-Star help button and before she knew it, there were 4 Ambulances and about 7 police cars there to help. the first responders were able to bring him back from the brink of death and got him to the hospital. he had suffered a major heart attack in the impala and there was nothing else they could do for his heart. he passed wednesday morning with his wife, son, daughter, and grand daughter by his side. we all were able to say our goodbyes and share a last joke with him that he got kissed by a cop (uncle ed said he would have rathered die than had a cop give him CPR).

for that, i am forever grateful for on star.

Sorry for your loss Edge. I'm glad to hear he got the extra time he did get. I love my OnStar even for the $18 bucks it costs. It sends me a systems diagnosis once a month, I have used the locator service, had my doors unlocked, and reported several emergencies out on the Interstate. The phone service is expensive @ 39 cents a minute but comes in handy now and then.

Edge...I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks for sharing with us something so personal and I hope your family finds some peace and certainly some more humorous things to remember your Uncle by.

Wow man I feel for you... I am glad that you get one happy memory about having the grace by god to be around him when he passed and to share a joke like that is wonderful... at least in the darkness of it all theres a small amount of light
