Default Love my poppy exhaust, but whats popping?

K, so I was talking to vital on AIM, and we got in an excellent conversation about exhaust. And I need answers

After putting a flowmaster on my bonneville, and a magnaflow on the Cav, both cars had popping noises from the exhaust. Not only are these sounds normal, I actually find them to be quite pleasureful to my ears. These popping noises are very noticible on the cavalier when I use engine braking from 3000 RPMs to 2500 RPM.

We concluded that these noises always existed on the car, but the OEM muffler always muffled them. Due to the different baffle design of the aftermarket muffler, they are now audible out of the exhaust.

Now for the question: what is causing the popping? Is it unburnt fuel hitting the cat converter? Or are we way off? (Note: Vital neither confirmed or denied this, this was all my idea. If its wrong I don't want him to look bad lol)

In the cavi..it'* the sound of the treadmill snapping. See the hamster sees you braking and downshifting and tries to stop the treadmill, which is a rubber band and it makes a pop sound when it bunches up and snaps the Hamster in the butt. Do you hear the hamster squeal in pain also?

In reality..it'* the engine taking the load of the car as you are now off the accellerator.

Go to a stock car race if you want to hear popping exhaust. I don't know what exactly causes it, but it does seem to be something to do with a more open exhaust.
