Back in law class the Sheriff came in to talk about driving. This commercial is retarded because it shouldn't be about speed but about roadkill. He was making a pass on a country road which is totally legit. The dumb mistake he made was slamming on the brakes to avoid the dog. Sure its sad when someone hits a dog or cat. But it does not compare to killing a human being. I quote my sheriff, "if you are driving on the road and an animal runs in front of your car DO NOT slam on the brakes because you risk loosing control and harming yourself or others. This is where the term roadkill comes in to play." Of course everyone was awwwing and ooooing but it makes sense. Even if your going 40mph in a 55mph zone and pullout to pass to get up to 55 you ain't going to be able to stop for an animal that runs out in front of you period. What can happen if you try? Well you just saw it.

its preposterous to claim that you dont lose control of your car when driving excessively over the speed limit. the speed limits there for a reason -- thats the speed deemed safe by people MORE knowledgeable than you. going more than 5-10 over is irresponsible at best and negligent homicide at worst.

Wow... that kind of left me without words. Thank God THAT situation is fake, but I'm sure similar has happened.

That is exactly why it pisses me off when I see people speeding down roads with homes/other traffic on it. Ok, middle of Arizona desert, that'* acceptable. People pass in the turning lane in front of my house ALL the time. I've been forced out of the lane while I was turning into my driveway once because of an ******* passing at high rate of speed. That'* the first and only time I've gotten the bonne to lay two darrkkkk blacckkk marks.

EDIT: I'm 19... you'd probably expect to see me racing around town. Unlike my friends, I like my drivers license, and my life.

I'm not denying that. I think that this commercial is a bad representation of that point. Trying to avoid animals is one of the main causes of accidents around here according to the sheriff. I believe it. I've seen very close calls due to friggn animals crossing the roads. To me the commercial shows that if you are going the speed limit you can slam on the brakes for an animal and not cause an accident, but if your speeding you will. Let me tell you that if you are going even 35mph and panic when an animal runs across the road you still stand a chance of causing a MAJOR accident.

an accident at 35 miles an hour is a lot less damaging than an accident at 75, either way. and thats my point.

all things being equal, id rather have the accident at 35.

that said, there is validity in saying to just hit the dang thing.

but what if its an endangered species

In drivers ed, they told us not to swerve if it'* a dog or smaller... if its something bigger, you may be better off in the ditch (damage wise)
