I dont like to turn the wheels when im parked cause of the strain on my steering pump... the extra wide wheels not moving + brakes (if you arent in park), thats when its working the hardest... But 99% of the time i will back in to my spot so the wheels usually end up straight...

Geez, what'* wrong with you fellas. I alway turn my wheels to the farthest one way and apply my parking brake as tight as I can, and I never back into a spot.
Why? I knew watching "Repo: Stealing for a Living" would come in handy.
Imagine your car in a deserted parking lot, no cars around but just yours. Your car is backed in (for some reason) and the wheels are perfectly straight and the parking brake is not enagaed. A wrecker comes in and backs up and takes your car with ease, hell you even saved him the work. But if it'* parked nose in and the e-brake is enaged and the wheels are to the right as far as it goes. it'* harder to repo or steal thus saving your car.
That'* why I park close to other people and have my wheels to the right or to the left and my ebrake on.

Pht. I just park. Let the wheels lie where they be and leave karma in charge. Then when I make my getaway, I jump in, slap 'er in gear - forward, reverse, what'* the diff? - and smash the gas pedal. I will either go straight or turn, depending on how I left the wheel. Pity the fool who'* standing too close and gets his toes run over. What was he doin' so close to my car anyway? He'* just lucky I'm not supercharged 'cause I'd probably grind his toes into dog food.

I'm always parking on a pretty decent hill around here so I don't really have a choice in the matter. Wheels are always turned the appropriate direction and the e-brake is on. I'd be too worried to leave it any other way.

How could i have missed this thread. Alright, guys, just because my wheels are always straight when I park (unless I am on a steep hill) doesn't mean I am going to fry my power steering pump. Actually, come to think of it....I don't think I have every turned my wheels while not moving...and that includes parallel parking. Learn how to park, if you do it right your wheels should end up straight anyway
Cody Cody Cody. Clearly you have not spent much time watching tow trucks. Since you have a front wheel drive car, your wheels will be "locked" up when you put it in park. They won't roll, therefore they won't steer either. And if they want your car, they will drag it out putting flat spots on your tires. If they are nice, they will put it up on dollies and it really doesn't matter then.
You guys never back into spots??? Where do you park? Luxary parking lots? At colleges, the spots are so close together, and so are the rows. I would go as close to the opposite row possible, and cut my wheels in hard, and I still couldn't swing my bonneville into a spot without backing up. It was way easier to back the boat in. And now that habit has carried over to the Cavalier, although it is not necessary.
You guys are crazy
EDIT: Forgot to say why. I HATE IT when people park with their wheels turned. I refuse to park next to someone whose wheels are pointed at me. I fear when they back up they will not notice and hit my car. I'm not willing to risk it.

My wheels sit as they are. Usually they are straight, b/c about the only place I park is at school, and I usually just go flying across the parking lot straight into my spot. I'm like the 3rd or 4th person that gets to the school.
