Man, I am so SICK of QRZ'd. The only people that live in that forum are a bunch of old farts that wear depends bitching about the friggin morse code crap. I have never seen such a group of people in my life. Sorry, back on topic...

Yes, CB actually evolved (some say stolen) from the Amateur Radio Service.
A few nights ago, I had a nice contact on 10 meters (28mhz) with a gent in Tennessee, running a small mobile unit running on a nearly dead marine battery. I was running about 5 watts output into a very simple antenna called a dipole (homemade) run along the back window of my house.
Lots of things are possible, such as Slow Scan TV, (sending a signal from a camera over the airwaves), voice comms, satellite comms, even bouncing a signal off the MOON! (called moonbounce or EME, stands for Earth, Moon Earth.)
The internet has made all of this a sure thing, so its boring that way. But doing it with a signal thru the airwaves, using equipment that might be homebuilt is a challenge!

Also for Haro, if you look WAAAAYYYY down at the Wiki link, it lists a few famous radio operators, he isnt listed, but astronaut, Owen, K Garriott, was born and raised in my hometown of Enid, OK. The main highway thru town is named after him.
Some operators also enjoy contacts with the space station, although I know little about that also
