today... was... insane...
Crazy. just crazy.
first and most important...
I'M A F#KIN' UNCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my dad called me at work and as of
approx. 2ish this afternoon
"Georgia Noel" is the newest member of our family
pics will be up tommorow.
part 2:
right after i get off the phone with my dad
some lady comes into swim and says that
there is a dead guy in the lobby.
apparently, one of the residents
(we have a half-way house type program )
on his way back from the hospital
walks in, keels over and what do the people at the front desk do?
they call 911 and wait. no ABC'* no first aid. they just wait.
down in aquatics, we have an AED, Oxygen, breather masks
and most important... training.
after this lady tells me this i grab all that ****
and start to head up.
on the way up, one of the front desk people is coming down.
she says that he'* already gone w/ the paramedics
and apparently already dead. it had taken a half hour for
me to even find out that this was going on.
i say, "why didn't you call down?"
she'* had training she says.
i know this, but i also know that i've had MORE training.
in addition, part of her training is to GET ME when this stuff happens.
i'm not saying i could have saved him.
but i could have tried. they didn't do ****.
the worst part?
when you die, certain body functions "release"
well he released all over the floor.
she was on her way down to ask me to clean it up.
lifeguards are the only people
repeat, the only people in the building
with life protection in our job description.
we are to respond to emergences in every department
not just aquatics.
but we get treated like janitors.
so. that pissed me off a lot, but i have a Niece, so i don't care. i'm happy.

Congrats man.
I was a lifeguard for a little bit, but quit because of the negligence of others around me. While I was watching the kids in the pool, the others wouldn't even be watching. I wanted no part of it if I happened to not be looking and associated with them.
I worked with kids at the same time so I went back to that... we ended up going to the pool I worked at previously (through the same program btw)... and I'm in the pool relaxing, and I see one of our little 6 year old girls flip over on a yellow float. I figured she'd come back up in about two or three but she did not... I swam over as fast as I could and had to dive down a few feet to get her. She took off her floaties and we didnt know it.
The lifeguards? They were flirting with eachother, and the main lifeguard was behind them, yacking on her cell phone I filed a complaint and told them off... but that was the best I could do. Glad I never got into a situation like you did. And I would never want to. Good luck with all of it, and once again congrats on being an uncle.
