My alarm somehow became an hour ahead yesterday, nfc why, everything else was fine, nothing lost power, or indicated it did.

I got a few of these recently http://www.buy.com/prod/cyberpower-c...203084696.html
Works good enough for me. Better than losing what i was doing if the power goes off.

My old Dell with a P2 has a power settings option to tell it what to do if the power is disconnected. I can set it to remain off, turn itself on, or return to the last state; it will stay off if it was already off or turn on if it was on before the power was disrupted.
