Default advice neede on how to approach my dad about getting to prom

OK so here'* the deal. My dad owns a 2000 triple black Corvette 'vert (black paint, top and interior). I would REALLY like to take it to at least 1 prom. (our district has 3 highschools and my gf goes to a different one than me so I am going to hers and she is comming to mine)

He is VERY protective of the car. I have driven it twice in parking lots(ooo 35mph...gay) But I have the basic knowledge for driving a stick. Plus the roads I would take to get to prom are pretty flat.

I am unsure of how to approach him about driving it to one or both proms. I am willing to pay what it would cost to insure me on the car. Hell I would even buy him a new set of tires( if I did this I would be doing a big burnout with the current shitty ones ) or the air filter setup he wants.

any ideas??

all constructive advice is appreciated.

Good luck. My parents have an 03 50th anniversary C5 6 speed, and there is practically nothing I will ever do to be able to drive it.

Tell him he can have the privledge to take your car out that same night, and there will even be enough change in the ash tray to buy himself a burger

I neglected to mention that me driving it was after I spent 20+ hours detailing the damn thing and me bothering him about driving it everytime he asked me to do something.
"hey can you get..."
me-"if you let me drive the vette"

of course I would still go do whatever but I got on his nerves. He lost his job recently so getting on his nerves would be very bad.

6speed manuals

I would detail the paint until it was a black mirror if he agreed.

I would have to say good luck as well. Especially if you are not well versed in the manual cars... Took some hard work to get my dad to let me have their year and a half old suburban for the night, even though I had driven it with my father multiple times, even once towing a trailer. In the end I was successful, but it took a lot of work. If it had been a Vette... He would have let me take it as long as it didn't leave the garage...

But like stated before, trust is a big thing. And with him being unemployed, he might look at it as an investment, rather than a toy, so he might be more reserved with letting you take it. But if you do... take pictures

well, you know, it is easier to get foriveness than it is permission

buy the intake, and offer to trade and install the intake sitting on the shelf for the prom ride. the temptation is normally greater for something you can see and you really want then somethin simply offered.

not to play the devil'* advocate but I wouldn't let someone drive my corvette either if I had one (even if he is your dad.) I know all too much of what goes on during a prom night and would fear for the car'* life.
