Default Interim Vehicle - Peppy Mercury!

Sorry for the bad pictures. I am taking care of a car for my Grandpa who can no longer drive. It has been sitting around for months and I had to move it to make way for the repaving of a parking lot so I decided to do a tune up on it (after i had to buy a battery to get it going). I am hoping to use it for a trip this winter to Tennessee, because its currently seems more reliable than the bonne for the big trip.

It will be sad to not have the Bonne, but its a peppy little car with a sunroof and Auto climate and 6cd changer, and roof rack for bikes. AND it only has 43k miles on it. It has the Duratech DOHC V6.

Do any of you ford/mercury owners out there know anything about these cars? Like what to look for going wrong and such? I am replacing the belt, oil, filter, airfilter, cabin air flter

NOTE: THIS IS NOT REPLACING THE BONNE. IT WILL BE A ONE TIME 'Use it then Sell it VEHICLE"[/GM loyalty disclaimer]

I'm driving what used to be my Grandpa'* Mercury right now, this only has 20'2xx miles on it. Hell it still has a mark on one of the rear windows from the sticker at the dealer when it was new 10 years ago I wouldn't call this peppy though.

Not a bad ride though right? My Grandpa had a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis too. I took it to get the oil changed last year at one of those terrible quickie change places. Half way through, the little oil minion came up to me and said "We recommend the differential oil be changed. The factory recommends every 30k miles." I replied "Oh really? Good to know. Too bad it only has 17,000 miles on it"

Unfortunately he totaled it just 3 months later.

The 3.0 duratec is a very strong engine. There isn't much that needs to be done to those motors to keep them happy. Sounds like you're already on the right track with what you have planned.

Transmissions suck. That is all.

My former roommate has a 99 sable. Rack and pinion blew so that it leaks PS fluid like crazy. Also the heater core is plugged up. All in all though, it is a nice car.

Grandma/Grandpa owned vehicle are honestly the best to have. They always have low low miles and are normally in great shape. My grandma has a 1996 Monte Carlo that has 46,000 miles and it looks brand spankin new.

That is low mileage. I've always had a thing for wagons, don't know why, but I like most of em.
