check the connector and be sure its seated good. in the meantime you can doubletap the touchpad and it will act just lick you double-leftclicked.

Will a single click hilight something? (Usualkly in blue) If it does then its something in the software not recognizing the doubleclick, maybe the speed is set way to fast.

edit - the touchpad connector is usually right below the keybd connector; if your keybd is 'user removeable"
