My aunt has instilled paranoia into me.

She says the avian flu will hit US in a widespread fashion eventually and said "History repeats itself every 30 years" and she said that her work (AEP) is preparing for that disaster. Is it true it could happen soon or unlikely?

I'd be more worried about the AIDS virus mutating so you can get it from a cough. Feel better now?

If it happens, it happens.

Practice good hygiene, wash your hands ETC. Beyond that, if some killer flu is gonna sweep the world, there isnt much we, as individuals can do about it, unless some super vaccine is developed.

I plan to take my vitamin C, wash my hands and not worry about it.

Like most "flu'*" it seems to be running it'* course. But it is interesting to see so much in viral mutation/evoloution in recent history. Scientifically I am a "creationist" not an "evolutionist". There has never been a shred of evidence humans evolved for the better, unless You really believe you came from the ancient apes evolutionists try to portray as early humanoids. Animal kinds did evolve in as much as say a donkey, a horse, and a jackass are different,..... but one is not better than the other. Animal chromosomes only alter/mutate for the worse never for the better. BacteriaViruses are The Exception. And with us digging up and developing parts of the world untouched for millenniums, and the constant chemical/ antibiotic onslaught we subject bacteria and viruses to that trigger their evoloution, There is indeed alot to worry about........ Back to my Honey Brown.

CA-MRSA is a more realistic threat. It is being called a superbug. Its a deadly form of staph that can kill you in under 72 hours. I recently had an MRSA (minus the CA) infection that I picked up from a local gym. I got it in 3 spots on my face. It was so painful, I was about to take the leftover loritab from my wisdom teeth surgery. My face swole up with 3 large pus-filled bumps, that were NASTY. This was all 1 week before prom. Once I was on the right anti-biotics (2000mg a day), I was ok. My face ended up just about fine for prom, with only a little mark where the large bumps once were. If you go to a gym, play sports, ect....wash your hands when your done and dont touch your face. More realistic than bird flu.

I agree with most of the above. If we're all doomed to die of a plague, there'* not much to do but take your vitamins and wash your hands.

We've all got to die sometime. A short struggle with a bird flu or killer acne sounds better than being kept alive at age 95 by an ever-improving medical industry, living in some nursing home where people don't care about you.

I'll take mine sooner and quicker, thanks.

OK,so not really
then you will die a happy man

I'm in the camp of all the antibiotics doing us more harm than good. It seems kids now days are sick more then ever. when I was growing up we only washed before eating, at the dinner table, not outside. we shoveled manure, baled hay, fixed fence and never once thought about washing when picking up something to eat. Your body was constantly fighting off grud and getting stronger and better at it. Now, the body doesn't have to fight because it thinks something is going to come along and do it for you.
