Unless you bought an HDTV (4 years ago 2500 or more) (now 600 or more) you'd know it.

The TV manual will say if it supports progressive scan. But if you don't have it, component video will still give you a nice picture.

I got a Samsung DVD player and I had to return it because I accidentally set it up as using a higher video quality than I really was, so I couldn't change the setting back since I had no video. It'* a long story....big PITA.

Use the components; but don't spend $50 or more for the cable set. I got a GE set from Target for less than $30 and the picture is great. Also, if you TV has a simulated 16x9 mode you want to set your DVD player video output format to 16x9 (widescreen). Some TV'* will take the "wider" image, and compress it down to letterbox format, the advantage is (with tv'* that support the simulated mode) you get more lines of resolution being compressed and as a result a better picture. My TV (JVC) has this mode, and I know some Sony'* do as well.

Quick Reply: i got a new dvd player
