I don't wanna dial that number and get charged $300 a minute.

To check your Mobile phone'* serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:

* # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your

handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get

stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They

will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the

SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Please spread this useful information around

Well, for one, if that information really works, it will only work for that specific model of phone, or manufacturer. So, to say "everyone should do this" is kinda dumb....

Besides, if we should all record our SN'*, wouldn't be a lot easier to tell everyone to look under their battery for this information??

Some people are not that bright. I just wanted to know if it was a scam.

Phone company already has your phone ser#. If you lose it, call them up and tell them that you lost it. They automatically disable and lock the phone, issue you a new # and if you have the insurance, replace the phone.

Both are true statements. I am just so glad that in my current job I do not have to deal with ordering and replacing cell phones. They are a pain in the you know where. Seems like the top execs are the worst for messing up their cell phones.
