Ok, here'* the deal:
I've started a new job,, and I'm now finally able to look at vehicles that aren't at "Sam'* Discount Car Corral" half off sale. Now the question is, would it be better for me, in your opinion, to purchase a new car as an all-purpose machine: Daily Driver, AutoX machine, possible trips to the drag strips, Etc. Etc. Or buy a slightly used car as a daily driver, and purchase a second "track car" that would be older, but if something breaks, no biggie, cause i've got the DD to get me to and from work.

My set budget for this quest is low 20'*, which puts me at a stripped Cooper * or a Mazdaspeed3 (which looks to be a real winner), or a 97+ SSEi and a Miata/MR2/ whatever I can dig up as the toy. Now mind you, the autoX thing is something that will happen whether I have the new car or the toy. Thats my main arena of motorsports interest, and is the reason for the dilemma.

Lemme hear your thoughts, prior experience, sage advise from the elders, whatever.

You mentioned a stripped Cooper *? Unless you want to buy one used, good luck! I've searched for ages and I STILL can't find a barebones cooper *. You can always find them used, though, but remember, if you DO buy one new, you'll get all your oil and stuff paid for 3 years.

Went to the dealer last weekend, and had a salesman build me a Mini exactly as I wanted it. Came up to about 22k. The best part was the salesman was a road racer himself, so he knew exactly why I wanted some things, and not others i.e. LSD and no leather or moonroof. He said it could be ordered that way, but would take a while to get here from across the pond.

And as for the Supra, nice car, but just isn't for me. will catch the unwanted attention of all the ricer wannabe'*, and the fuzz.[/i]

I would get the 2 cars, so if one bombs, you have another to replace it.

But if I get the new one, any bombing will be warrenty covered. The only mods that I would do would be minimal, hense the two pocket rockets as my first two choices. I would want something out of the box that I don't have to tthrow more cash at after I've already bought the car.

But with the two cars, modding would be more viable later on without worry of comprimise.
Hense the tough choice......

Unfortunately, the PA roads have more than taken their tolls on the body, and eaten it alive. It'* sad, really.
