Question about the 4.3 Chevy...
I might be ridding myself of the Bonneville'* repair problems soon, and my grandpa'* got a '93 GMC 1500 that he doesn't use anymore, really. I was wondering if anyone'* got knowledge of mods/addons/etc that I could sink into this thing, considering that I wouldn't be paying for it.
So far as I know, it'* the same engine as in the Blazer (4.3L V6). And it'* a manual tranny, so no worries about that.

Well ill tell ya this from experience...43.V6 in a 1500 is going to be underpowered to al hell. If you have anything heavy in the bed of it, its going to be a drastic chance on gas mileage, and as for towing, your looking at light towing.

The 4.3'* are freaking tanks. They are the textbook definition of a workhorse. The 4.3 is insanely reliable.
I don't know the compression on those engines, but depending on what it is, they respond well to turbos. Look at the GMC Syclone ...

Yeah, my friend has a '94 Chevy 1500 with the 4.3... It just plain sucks... gets nearly the same mileage that my dad gets with his '94 Chevy 1500 with a 350. The 4.3 works fine in a blazer, but in a full size... nuh uh.

Poopy.
The weird thing is that I can barely find anything online about them. KBB.com has something, but as far as Google references go, I can't find more than a page or 3 of results on the 1500.

I'm with Sol on this one. The 4.3 Chevy engines are rock solid. They might not be the strongest thing in the world, but if you're looking for a light work horse that'* damn reliable, then look no further. There are lots of guys who go well over 250K on those engines.

You can get a lot more information on the 4.3s here.

4.3 in a truck if you dont want to tow, or haul anything in the bed. In a blazer, they are a horse, but in a full size truck, no they arnt.
