So sorry and heartfelt about your loss!!!! I know what you're going through. It'* going to be two years in August since we put our beloved Packer (half border collie, half Australian cattledog) down because of prostate cancer (this was done three weeks after his 13th birthday). What was SO painful was that except for his constant "straining" to go, he was otherwise in perfect health. We first found out about his condition back in November 2007, and from that time until his death the doctor tried giving him several variations of meds to see if his tumor would shrink, but it only enlarged over those final months to the point where he was constantly straining at bathroom time. My wife noticed him out in the yard one day and basically said enough of this suffering crap, called the vet, then the next Friday brought him in. I CRIED like a damn baby for a week straight, but knew it was the right thing to do. After my wife had her knee surgery that September, we went out to a beagle farm near Rockford and picked up seven week-old Clark, he'* been a bundle of joy ever since.
And all this coming from a guy who hated dogs when I was a kid. After being with Packer for 8.5 years, I swore to the wife I would NEVER have a household without a dog ever again.
Sorry for the rant, just wanted you to know that I DEFINITELY feel your pain.

Sorry about your loss. I had a 110# Collie as a child. She was 18 years old and I was 22 when she died. I was heart broken. She was in the garage and died peacefully. It was a very hot summer night and she loved laying on the cool cement. I had gone out for the night and something told me to go home. I did just in time to say goodbye. No dog will ever replace her!
