I think he wants a bit more power but I feel a 305 would be alot easier than a 350 that way he wouldn't have to put a new tranny in..............plus the transmission feels weird as it is........145k on the car its getting up there I think we will find a used 305 for now and then someday once we gain increased knowlege on cars we may drop in a 350............

I would just get a 350 and a turbo 350 tranny, probably be able to get the combo for as little as $500 in good working condition. I have a 4-bolt main 350 and turbo 350 I got for free, but thats for my project car ... MUWAHAHAHA

Ya could do like the Tompson boy down the street and wait til somebody rolls a stingray.... His 76 C10 will lift the front tires about six inches off the ground...

Even a 700R4 would work behind a 350 and hold up well. My 97 Chevy has the electronic 700R4 and has served me well.
As for the engine...I would stay away from the 305. They're really doggish. Plus, 350s are a dime a dozen!

If you're going to do any mods to the 350, I would go with a TH350 or TH400 tranny. The TH400 can really handle the power!!
I know someone who has a TH400 for sale too!! ...$75 if you're interested... it'* out of a 73 Oldsmobile...
