Default Band knock-offs

Looking thru some of my CD'*, I notice this -

Accept has a similar style as AC/DC.
Iron Angel sounds a lot like Iron Maiden.

Old metal fans might remember Accept and Iron Angel.

What gives with bands doing this? Marketing sceme? Few will know who I.A. even was, and Accept has been called a "rip off of AC/DC"

Do a lot of less popular groups do this? From any style music?

discuss...

I've never heard of I.A. or Accept.

Me and my friends are thinking about starting a Metallica-like band.
