Ah, fathers day, what a day that was. I got home from work, the sun is shinning, it'* nice. I change in to my lounge pants, and sit down to relax. My kids are up stairs playing, my wife is folding laundry. I'm board, so I get up to help fold laundry, stop it she yells, it'* fathers day, you cant help. I'm still board, so I walk in to the family room, there'* my computer, I think, ah, internet, my old friend. As I walk over to the computer, what was that I here? It'* gone. I have VERY good hearing mind you, so I was sure I knew what I heard. So I yell to my wife in the other room, as she responds with WHAT? I crack the window open. Yep, I thought that was what I heard. I respond back by yelling, GRAB THE KIDS, THE SIRENS ARE ON!!! She rounds the corner to get the kids, I go the other way grabing a cell phone, then run to our room, throw on a shirt and sweat pants, throw teh rug back and open the door. The door is in the floor, ya, not my idea. I jump in to the hole, turn on the lights and jump back out. There'* the wife and kids, I run past them as they head for the basement. My wife yells, where you going? I yell back, I'll be right back. I grab my keys and head for the garage. Now I know what your thinking, but I was not going to save my baby. Instead I run across the driveway, open the door, and grab two sleeping bags that were left there from teh last weekend. As I head back to the house, I notice a rumble, and lound nonstop rumble. At this point my feet really picked up the pace. I run back in, throw the sleeping bags on the floor. Then I think, I've never seen a tornado. So I get the camera, and go for a peek.

That'* when I notice the rumbling again, it'* nonstop thunder. So I venture out a bit further, and notice a big black cloud, it'* rotating, and it'* low

What comes with tornados? Oh ya, hail. Better move the wifes van under the car port. Once under there the rain starts

I'm stuck here for a little while. Then as fast as it cam, it'* over.

The weather service said we were very lucky, that storm should have spawned a tornado, but never reached teh ground. Several started, but just didn't have it. Several miles to teh south, one did touch down and ripped the roof off of a school, and did a lot of damage. And a water spout was a bit to the north.

Yep, I wont forget this fathers day for a while

Glad your safe!
I had one touch down when I was a kid in Tx about 200 yards from us,
makiing a bee-line for the trailer park we lived in.
Us kids had no idea what it was and just stood there watching it form
and come down; most impressive. And like yours, *poof* it was gone.
It only lasted seconds but its seemed alot longer than that to my 8y.o. self,
its also a sound you'll never forget either.

We stood on my back porch and watched a tornado go across the property behind ours a couple years ago. It was crazy.
