The company i work for has developed a plastic exhaust system for a few OEM manufacturers and is in future production for Chrysler OEM applications. They are also looking into designing exhaust manifolds. If they design parts to withstand temps like that I believe it is more then possible (if not - in the future) to create an engine or engine parts.
